The Space

A brand new exclusive events venue on Cape Town’s coolest street.

Cape Town Gallery space that brings art and celebration together, with a fully stocked bar, this venue is perfect to host private and corporate events.

The Team

Our in-house event coordinator can assist you with all your event requirements from conceptualising to furniture, décor, catering, entertainment and AV. We work with preferred suppliers to ensure each event is unique and a huge success!

We are regularly involved with First Thursdays Exhibitions, Wine tasting events, product launches, weddings, birthdays and more.

With a variety of Artists both local and international we are only extending our portfolio month by month and look forward to collaborations and future event possibilities.

Meet Erik Schärberg, Swedish chef and secret weapon.

Erik was born and raised in the small town of Trollhättan, where he trained as a chef and spent the next few years working his way through a number of fine dining restaurants and hotels.

the journey

In 2007 he packed his knives (and ski boots) to work and play for a year in Chamonix, in the heart of the French Alps. One year morphed into another until he’d spent six years exploring the French cuisine as well as the mountains. He’d worked everywhere from huge hotels, serving hundreds of guests, to smaller boutique restaurants.

Not ready to settle down just yet, Erik decided it was time to make some moves.

So once again he packed his suitcase, and headed for sunny South Africa. Growing restless in the restaurant industry, he decided to try something different and move away from cooking for a while. He spent the next couple of years in SA working for an international NGO in Cape Town, but he never lost his zest (pun intended) for the food industry. Some of you might have been lucky enough to catch him at his stint with Spasie Underground back in 2015, or cooking up a storm at a private event in the Mother City.

But now, Erik has decided that it’s time to immerse himself in his passion once again – yay for us! Needless to say, we’re over the moon to have him collaborate with the Upstairs team.

4 Quick Ones

What can we expect from the Table Upstairs? – You can expect a fusion of Scandinavian heritage and French beauty, with a hint of SA cheekiness.

What do you cook at home? – It depends on the season. Going into winter I love to turn the dial down a notch and let things take time. Slow cook pork for 9 hours on a Sunday while hanging out and talking kak with friends is definitely my vibe.

What does the Table mean for you? – The Table Upstairs is a way for me to do something I’m passionate about, surrounded by rad people who share my love for a good time. And doing that in a space like this, with amazing art on the walls, is really a privilege.

We’d love to chat more with you. When can we meet up? – Well, come join us at the Table Upstairs! I’d love to chat while cooking for you guys. It’s an open kitchen so just step right up, I’m pretty friendly. And if you bring me a glass of wine, I’ll be your best friend!
